SIH CEO unveils six-year agenda for Akwa Ibom tech industry
The Chief Executive Officer, Start Innovation Hub, Mr Hanson Johnson, has unveiled a six-year agenda for the Akwa Ibom tech industry.
Speaking in Uyo as the President, Ibom Innovation Network (IIN), and organisers of the just concluded Akwa Ibom Tech Week Conference 2024, Johnson mentioned that the six-year agenda is anchored on five key pillars: igniting innovation, fueling tech development, empowering entrepreneurs, building capacity, and policy advocacy.
Hanson explained that part of the agenda would be the establishment of a virtual hub for national and international trade which would create opportunities for the government and people of Akwa Ibom State, and connect Nigeria to the rest of the world.
He said plans were underway to partner with universities and technical schools to develop specialized curricula in emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, and IoT amongst other things that would cause a technological revolution in Akwa Ibom.
“I stand before you today as the President of Ibom Innovation Network. We stand at the cusp of a technological revolution, a revolution that has the power to transform Akwa Ibom State into a shining beacon of innovation, economic prosperity, and sustainable development.
“The Ibom Innovation Network is at the forefront of this revolution, and today, I am honored to unveil our ambitious agenda for the years 2024 to 2030.
“It is a roadmap to the future we envision for Akwa Ibom State. A future where technology empowers our people, drives economic growth, and creates a brighter tomorrow for generations to come.
“We invite you all to join us on this journey. Together, let us build the Akwa Ibom of our dreams – a smart city, a thriving tech hub, and a testament to the power of innovation as we position our state as Africa’s New tech Destination,” he stated.
The President mentioned that already, IIN is partnering with international organizations to offer advanced training programs in specialized tech fields through member hubs, and collaborating with stakeholders to develop a comprehensive technology road map for Akwa Ibom.
He revealed that IIN is engaging government agencies and policymakers to promote the development of a tech-friendly regulatory environment, while advocacy for increased investment in digital infrastructure, including broadband connectivity and smart city initiatives is ongoing.
