Start Innovation Hub team was privileged to be invited by Nigerian Communications Commission to be part of their Strategic Visioning Workshop with the theme “Achieving increased competitiveness, inclusion and sustainability in the telecoms sector”.

The workshop lasted for 4 days from 7th to 10th December, 2015 at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Strategic topics for each of the days were;

Day 1: Market Facilitation with Gilat Satcom Global Communications, Israel as guests.

Day 2: Strategic Partnership with Nigeria Commodity Exchange and Barrister Onofiok Luke, Speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Day 3: ICT Penetration with First Nationwide Networks Nigeria Limited and Start Innovation Hub Nigeria.

Day 4: Regulatory Excellence with MainOne Cable Nigeria Limited.

On day 3, our CEO, Hanson Johnson shared his views on “How Broadband Penetration and Telecom Value-Added Services can Usher a New era of Innovations & Technopreneurship in Nigeria”. He also shared personal experiences on what startups are passing through for not being resident in Lagos as investors don’t seem to look their way. He made the NCC delegates understand that multiple regulations is also a challenge to some of their ideas especially when it involves financial and telecom solutions.

Hanson also wished government procurement policies could be relaxed for technology startup founders to be able to procure for government as an alternative to funding. In reaction, the delegates encouraged Start Innovation Hub to reach out to NCC with proposals on ideas they need support from the commission.
